The BYD E6 is a 5 door electric hatch back with a huge 82kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, giving it among the largest, longest lasting batteries available in an EV in New Zealand. If driven conservatively a range of over 350km between charges is achievable.
It’s the most rugged long lasting used EV in it’s price range in New Zealand with the the longest range and most durable battery.
These cars can be found with over 700,000km on their original battery still doing over 300km to a charge!
BYD Auto Co Ltd (Build Your Dreams) is the fourth largest producer of battery electric vehicles in the world and are expected to sell over 1.5 million electric vehicles in 2022 alone.
BYD manufacture their own batteries using lithium iron phosphate chemistry, this chemistry is much safer than traditional EV battery technologies, has significantly less toxic chemicals including no cobalt or nickel. They also offer a much longer battery lifespan than other EV battery technologies with an expected lifespan in excess of 4000 cycles, compared to 800 – 900 for the Nissan Leaf.
